Frequently Asked Questions

Well, maybe not frequently, but quite often.

How can we help?

Who are the extremely intelligent and attractive people behind this business?

Oh please, you’ll make us blush. Papernest is a small business run by two paper lovers who wear many hats, from designer to packager to pun-thinker-upper. We’re based on the Gold Coast and we work with illustrators and manufacturing partners across Australia.

Retail is a hard slog. What motivates you?

Three things. First, coffee. Second, we love what we do. Third, we’re all about supporting other small businesses. When you buy Papernest, you’re supporting other Australian small businesses from envelope and paper makers to printers, retailers and – of course – extremely talented artists.

You use plantable seed paper – what’s that?

Seed paper is paper that has seeds embedded in the paper. When the confetti is planted in a pot of soil sprouts will shoot from the embedded seeds, and the paper composts into the soil.

The plantable seed paper sounds like magic. How is it made?

We use seed paper handmade in Australia from recycled paper and post-consumer waste paper from local organisations, businesses and schools. That’s all mixed into a pulp, which is then embedded with seeds and, once dried, cut into confetti shapes.

How long do I have to plant the confetti?

Seed paper can last for up to five to seven years, but not all the seeds in the paper will remain viable for the same length of time. The seeds will gradually start to decline after three to four years, depending on storage. It’s best to keep your seed confetti in a cool, dry place to preserve the germination rates for a longer period.

When is the best time to plant the confetti?

Swan River Daisies are a low-growing annual daisy that provides a spectacular burst of colour through spring. Plant the seed in autumn and keep the plants growing through winter in warmer climates as this will bring a better display in spring. Read the instructions.

Can I post cards with seed paper confetti?

You sure can! Swan River Daisies are Australian natives. They comply with all environmental, quarantine and customs regulations within Australia.

Please note, however, that restrictions on the importation of any plant matter or seeds vary from country to country. We have found small quantities for personal use are permitted entry to most countries and have sent our confetti cards to several international destinations without a problem. It’s the responsibility of the purchaser to check the import regulations of the country they are posting or traveling to.

What if I’m posting to Canada or New Zealand?

All seeds entering Canada and New Zealand will be inspected by the Ministry for Primary Industries. We cannot guarantee that our seed paper confetti will be allowed to enter. We suggest sending the card without the confetti to these destinations and planting it yourself with the recipient in mind.
